JG King Homes Celebrates 33 Years
Since three is a magic number, 33 must be even better. It’s certainly the case for award-winning builders JG King Homes, who are celebrating 33 years of business in their hometown, Ballarat.
Amongst the inspiring heritage and architecture of the area, regional Victoria native John G King wanted to build a business that’d leave a similar impactful impression. In 1985, his innovative steel frame housing made sure to do just that. In their first year, their goal was to build 15 homes. They built 35. From there, for both King’s reputation and company growth, the only way was up.
Over the next decade, JG King Homes went from strength to strength. They quickly outgrew their first humble headquarters in Ballarat, opening a new branch in Bendigo in 1986. Melbourne, Warrnambool, Horsham, Geelong, Mildura, Wodonga, Traralgon and Shepparton followed shortly after.
Such rapid growth was a testament to the strength and quality of JG King Homes’ steel frame offering. Built exclusively with Australian-made Truecore steel, the framing is designed to endure extreme Australian conditions like strong winds, bushfires and termite invasion. The resilient, enduring steel frames appeal equally to city dwellers in Melbourne, especially with the added security of a 50-year structural warranty.
Though their network now spreads far and wide across Victoria, JG King Homes is still firmly rooted in Ballarat and is proud to contribute to the local community. This includes building homes for charities such as McCallum Disability Services, Ballarat Health Services and Lodden Mallee Housing Services to name a few. They also sponsor local sporting teams like the Ballarat Football Club and the Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Regatta. King himself is a recognised philanthropist who received an Order of Australia in 2009.
JG King Homes is a family business at its core. Even with 400 employees across 10 offices, it’s a company that has the same down-to-earth feeling of loyalty and passion today as when it started 33 years ago. Each year, the entire company floods to Ballarat from across Victoria to celebrate their achievements and come together as a community.
John King’s daughter Natalie is now Managing Director, guided by the same values and principles her father founded the company on. As a female leader, she’s developing these principles further, with gender equality embedded in the JG King Homes DNA.
Such a strong, guiding ethos and a future-focused approach sets an unshakeable foundation for the next 33 years. ☆
